Progress Update 05

1. Key Activities

  • April Recovery Plan – Currently drafting a structured plan to catch up on delayed work and meet upcoming deadlines. This includes clear strategies to improve workflow and regain control over production stages.
  • Casting Outreach – Distributed casting call via Instagram, Facebook, and physical posters at college. Used Instagram’s promote feature to advertise the call, which generated site traffic but no actual submissions.
  • Tutor Support – Tutor provided a potential contact who may have a group of dancers to support casting efforts.
  • Location Considerations – Exploring University of Cumbria as a filming location, but considering shooting at college after hours (Tuesdays or Thursdays) if other options don’t work out.

2. Feedback & Progress

  • Casting efforts are ongoing with limited success so far; new leads being followed.
  • No notable progress in research or pre-production stages since the last update.
  • A one-week deadline extension from tutors offers slightly more breathing room to recover lost time.

3. Challenges & Solutions

  • Delayed Research & Pre-Production – Progress is significantly behind schedule.
    • Solution: Implementing the Pomodoro technique and working in isolation (e.g. breakout rooms at college) to boost focus and productivity.
  • Unsuccessful Casting Call – High website traffic but no meaningful responses.
    • Solution: Pursuing tutor-provided dancer contacts and continuing outreach to other potential sources.
  • Limited Filming Time – Cannot delay production indefinitely due to a fixed screening deadline.
    • Solution: Accelerating pre-production planning and prioritising essential tasks like AV script, location confirmations, release forms, and storyboard creation.

4. Upcoming Plans

  • Finalise and publish the April Recovery Plan on the production diary.
  • Focus on completing research and pre-production documentation (AV script, location plan, releases, storyboard).
  • Continue working on casting and solidify location arrangements.
  • Use focused time blocks and isolated workspaces to stay on task.
  • Commit to regular production diary updates every Wednesday and Sunday moving forward.

5. Additional Comments

  • Acknowledging the tight turnaround for the next production phase.
  • Aiming to prevent chaotic filming by preparing a clear storyboard and shot plan rather than improvising on set.
  • Fixed screening date places added pressure to stay on track—delays are no longer feasible.
